- Describe the importance of SBAR in assuring effective communication among team members.
- List the elements of VMMC’s Safe Pass Hand-off guidelines
- Identify how MET, Bundles and Safety Rounds facilitate safe, reliable care.
- Describe the relationship between standard work and patient safety.
- Discuss Kristen M. Swanson’s five caring processes.
- Describe how Virginia Mason Production System Principles can be used to provide the nurse with more time at the bedside.
- Identify two new ideas to test for improving care at the bedside.

Director, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Diane Miller is the Director for the “Transforming Care at the Bedside Initiative”, which is a partnership between IHI and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She also directs the “Transforming Medical Surgical Care Learning Community” within IHI’s Impact Organization, which consists of approximately 50 hospitals. Both projects focus on innovations in medical surgical care in the following four areas: Safety, Vitality of the Workforce, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Waste Reduction.
